Update: Waterbury

This is the latest on the Waterbury Flood Recovery Effort:

The Waterbury volunteer effort coordinated at Thatcher Brook Primary School will not be assigning new volunteers on Monday due to rain and excellent turnout the past two days. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE, OVER 1,000 people turned out in the past two days from as far away as Tennessee. Residents and business owners are extremely grateful for your emotional and physical support.

AT THIS POINT IN TIME CASH DONATIONS ARE OUR BIGGEST NEED. State and federal aid money is not yet flowing into town. We have several urgent family housing needs we could solve if we had the funds.
Several cases involved two families squeezed into one bedroom/one bath apartments for the last seven nights. We’d really like these kids to get a good night sleep Monday with their families before our schools reopen on Tuesday. Please consider one of the suggested donation funds on the town website: http://www.waterburyvt.com/

Also check this website for updates on future volunteer work efforts. The website also has a spot for those wanting to offer their services directly to local residents. Please be advised that exposed nails are now present in most homes and extreme caution and proper safety gear is recommended for all volunteers in the safety zone. Those under the age of 18 are advised to avoid the flood area.
