Carpenter Needed: Windsor

Rebuild and re-install a door on a National Historic Landmark building, following specifications, at the Robbins & Lawrence Armory in Windsor VT, that houses the American Precision Museum. Must demonstrate experience with the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for Historic Preservation and with historic projects. If you are unemployed because of Irene and you live in Windsor County this may be eligible for a specific fund. Please provide contact info and three references.

Help Needed (2/4): Stockbridge

We are going to be doing a work day in Stockbridge tomorrow (Saturday 2/4). She lives right behind Lambert’s power equipment in off 107 and couldn’t access her house for several months. Mold did access her place and she needs some help. She has done a ton of work assisting people over the years and now its our turn to help her.

We will start at 8:30 on Saturday morning and will have lunch provided. There are two jobs, one entails bringing boxes out of the house and blowing items with compressed air. We are looking for 20 volunteers for that, masks are advised and we will provide them. The second job involves tearing out the mold in the basement. We advise respirators and can supply some, we are looking for about ten people down there.

The mold has been tested and is common variety that is not considered dangerous. Long term exposure or people with weakened immune system need to be careful. Please let me know ASAP if you can help out.

Long Term Recovery Volunteer Opportunities

The Central Vermont Community Action Council is looking for volunteers across Vermont for long term recovery projects associated with Irene. Projects are in the planning stage now and will begin active work as we head into the warmer months.

If you are looking for recovery help, CVCAC is also available to help. There are Flood Recovery Specialists working throughout the state who are available to provide guidance and support to all affected by Irene.

There is a Recovery Meeting from 3 to 6 pm on 1/25 for Windham County including the towns of Jamaica, Londonderry, Wardsboro, Newfane, Whitingham, Halifax, Readsboro, Marlboro, Brattleboro and surrounding towns.

All are welcome. The meeting will take place at the Marlboro College Theater.

There is a Community Recovery meeting tonight from 3 to 6 pm for the communities of Bethel, Sharon, South Royalton and Randolph at the Vermont Independent School of the Arts (Seven Stars Center in Sharon).

Vermont Society of CPAs has formed a task force to offer free or reduced‑fee tax preparation and consulting services to victims of the 2011 flooding. There are special tax treatments for casualty losses, and members of the Society around the state will help taxpayers affected with their 2011 returns to take advantage of any tax provisions available. There are also some resources for taxpayers who want to do some research of their own. At the IRS website, there is a wealth of info, some of which is selected by typing in the search term “disaster loss” and/or by looking for Publication 2194 (Disaster Losses Kit for Individuals) or Publication 2194B (Disaster Losses Kit for Businesses). Pages 23‑45 of the individual kit contain the asset listings which could easily be printed out for use as a prompt to develop loss information (or to improve the comprehensiveness of any list already made).
